Carolyn Bradfield
In 2002, Carolyn Bradfield was a busy telecommunications executive and the parent of a teenager struggling with drugs, alcohol and behavior problems. Following her daughter’s placement in wilderness therapy and a therapeutic boarding school, Carolyn was inspired to found Phoenix Outdoor, an licensed adolescent wilderness therapy program, in 2004.
Beginning her career as an educator, Carolyn taught students ages 13-15 for 5 years in the Atlanta area. She then ran the Newspaper in Education program for the Savannah News Press, later publishing Comics as an Educational Tool, a curriculum guide distributed nationwide to schools.
Leaving education for the business world, Carolyn started, developed and sold some of the most successful companies in audio and web conferencing including InterCall, Quorum Conferencing and InterAct Conferencing. Most recently, Carolyn served as the Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Raindance Communications, a $70M public company that purchased her company, InterAct Conferencing.
Bruce Ahern
Bruce Ahern had a personal family experience with an adolescent in crisis when his sister enrolled her son in a therapeutic boarding school following negative behavior directly related to drugs. Along with his wife Carolyn, Bruce left a thriving consulting practice to co-found Phoenix Outdoor in 2004.
At Phoenix Outdoor, Bruce directs the finance and corporate operations including marketing and publications, the development of parent support materials and press relations. Prior to Phoenix, Bruce ran a consulting organization that worked with corporate management to develop and implement strategic communication, corporate image building and product/service marketing programs.
Bruce founded and was president of the Technology Directory Publishing Company in San Diego, CA, that researched and produced reference directories and periodicals on the regional technology market. The company was sold in 1997 and the publications, which are still produced today, continue to provide detailed profiles of Southern California's high technology, and biotechnology/biomedical industries.
